Licensed Curriculum

 

The licensed curriculum consists of a wide variety of clothing projects, craft projects and doll clothes. These projects and methods are designed and geared to the student's age and experience. Beginning students will start at Level 1 and then progress to the subsequent levels with more challenging and difficult techniques. As they progress they will learn fashion design techniques and methods . For example, a student may be taught how to add a ruffle to the skirt pattern, which completely changes the look of the particular pattern to a different and NEW fun design. All students will move at their own pace, so they will move through each level at a different rate.

 

Projects include some of the following equalling dozens upon dozens of fabulously fun fashions: Pants, Shorts, Capris, Blouses, Tops, Shirts, Jumpers, Sweat Pants, Dresses, Nightwear, Lounge Wear, Sweats, Exercise Wear, Nighshirts, Gathered Blouses, Gathered Skirts, Gathered Nightgowns.

 

Level 1

Students learn the sewing machine basics and safety, and  how to thread and operate the sewing machine. Students will learn how to: follow written sewing terms and directions, use a paper pattern, use 1-2 pattern ppieces, determine pattern size, lay the pattern on fabric, mark fabric, and cut out the pattern & fabric. They will learn to make casings, hem, make a facing, pivot stitch, back-tack, make a slit, clip around curves, work from the fold line, measure from the straight of grain, use notches, pin, measure seam allowances, topstitch, use a tape measure, use a seam gauge, and other sewing equipment, how to press using an iron, how to thread elastic and cording and how to construct and complete a wearable garment. There are nine clothing projects and and two craft projects in this level.

 

Level 2

Students learn more difficult techniques and methods such as making slits, use bias tape, insert a sleeve, use knit fabric, make a drawstring waist casing, make a button hole, double top-stitch, baste stitch, make ribbing, ruffles, gather, stretch stitch, and hand sew. There are eight clothing projects and three craft projects in this level.

 

Level 3

Students learn even more complicated techniques such as how to sew in interfacing, add lining, make a fly front, hem circular method, insert a zipper, attach a waistband, make button holes, add ribbing, add pockets, add lace, make pocket welts, top stitch, make straps, set in straight or raglan sleeves, sew on buttons, sew on hooks & eyes, make pleats, use stretch fabric, introduces fleece fabric, hand sewing, add more pattern pieces for new design. There are eight clothing projects.

 

Level 4

Students learn to use a serger in this level, and focus on sewing stretch fabrics. All projects at this level use Lycra fabric. The projects are challenging yet fun to make. Combinations of designs are endless using this workbook.

 

Sewing Crafts

This program teaches basic sewing skills and consists of 22 fun, exciting and unique craft projects that are easy to sew. These easy to sew projects make excellent gift items. This workbooks are often used in conjunction with Level 1 and above.

 

Rag Doll & Doll Clothes

This program is geared for the first time sewer and teaches basic sewing skills. They make "look-a-like" clothes from the Level 1 program. Kids enjoy making miniature clothes for their Doll. There are eleven projects and the doll clothes fit a 21" Doll and the American Doll with slight alterations. This workbook is often used in conjunction with Level 1.
