Happy Summer Sewing!
Beginner Sewing - From the Start

Tuesdays starting June 12th from 6-8 pm
The popular Project Runway television program proves without a doubt, that with a little imagination and know how, you can learn to sew...imagine being able to complete alterations, or sew an outfit just the way you like it. Take this class and be in control of your own fashion statement for your clothes and home decor. This class is designed for novices and those who want to return to sewing and want an update on techniques. The focus is on basic techniques, sewing terms, fabric selection, reading a pattern, pressing techniques, notions and operating a sewing machine.
You will work on a home decor and garment project to develop your skills and then go on to more advanced projects as time allows. No prior sewing experience is necessary. Sewing machines are provided by the shop. Sign up quickly to reserve your seat since this class has been in high demand! Our experience with this class has shown that the students enjoy it so much, they want to learn more. Basic Sewing supplies are needed by the student. The Fabric Shop provides a steep discount on a basic starter sewing kit for the students taking this class.

Advanced Beginner Sewing - Techniques

Tuesdays starting July 24th 6- 8 pm
Continue building your skills in this class. Seam finishing, hems, zippers, facings, pockets, darts, waistbands, sleeves, buttons and buttonholes are all necessary techniques for constructing a garment, costume or home decor project. You will use these basic techniques over and over again. You will learn the steps that the pattern instructions omit, and gain the skills to make high quality garments and home decor in an in-depth way.
The instructor will demonstrate each technique, then you will do the technique in class, and place your work sample in your sewing notebook for future sewing reference. You must have beginning sewing experience or have taken our Beginner Sewing class. This 4 week class starts on Tuesday July 24th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Class fee is $48. Advanced Sewing - Fit your body

Currently scheduling. Please let us know if you are interested in taking this class.
Fashions change, our bodies change, and we don't always choose the most flattering option when we sew. Are you wearing the right size? Sewing patterns and ready-to-wear sizing differs dramatically and we often sew up the incorrect size based on the size we purchase off the rack. Wrong! Let us help you take the mystery out of pattern adjustments. Learn the secrets to custom fitting patterns to your specific body measurements.
You will learn how to take your proper measurements, make a muslin according to your measurements and then transfer those measurements to the flat pattern. This class will teach you how to alter your patterns by the pivot/slide method and determine the appropriate amount of ease for your body measurement. This gives you a personalized and perfect fit, so that once you learn this method, whatever you make in the future will fit!
You must have sewing experience, and experience with the techniques in the Intermediate Sewing class. This is a "money well spent" class if you plan to sew garments, using commercial patterns.
When: This is a 5-6 week class and can be scheduled in a group or on an individual basis.
Cost is $72 plus the cost of pattern, fabrics, trims and notions.
Instructor: Donna Sandidge.
Couture Sewing - Couturier Series

Currently Scheduling; contact Donna at 615.382.5600 if you are interested in taking this class.
We will study the haute couture techniques of 5 famous couturier's and constuct their class garments. First in the series is Mademoiselle "Coco" Chanel with a Chanel Jacket.
What fashionista doesn't dream of owning an original custom-fit "Chanel Jacket" (or a vintage one for that matter), or one of Mme. Chanel's classic "Little Black Dress" in her wardrobe - but the cost is a little out of our price range at $5,000 - $10,000 a piece!
Join us for this continuing sewing adventure as the next best thing. During the upcoming summer months, we will be constructing an "authentic" Chanel Jacket, with authentic fabrics, using Claire Shaeffer's and Susan Khalje's haute couture sewing techniques, identical to those used in the House of Chanel atelier in Paris, France. Learn about Claire and Susan here.
You should come in to the shop and see these lovely Chanel tweeds that we have acquired from Linton Tweeds in the U.K. - which is the only source for these fabrics in the world. Admire the wonderful trims, buttons, braids we have chosen to complement these jackets. Look at fine designer silks used as linings and think about making a matching blouse, which Mademoiselle Chanel did for every single collection of hers since the Chanel Jacket/Suit was debuted back in 1954. (House of Chanel continues to follow this tradition today).
Don't miss this once in a life time opportunity to learn how to make your very own Chanel Jacket. Intermediate sewing skills are a prerequisite for this class, however you do not need to know any couture techniques. That is what you will learn in these classes. You will also be designing your own custom labels which we will have made up for you.
Serger Classes

We are not currently holding this class this summer.
- Do you have a serger in the back of your closet, in the box, and never opened?
- Did you buy your serger because it was on sale, but missed the classes?
- Are you afraid of your serger?
- Do you know how to THREAD your serger?
- Do you really want to learn how to use your serger?
Then this class is for you. We are now planning a beginning serger class where you will learn the basic of serging, the parts of the serger, how to THREAD your serger, and how to maintain it.
You don' have to be afraid of your serger anymore! You will serge a simple project and gain the confidence to continue serging when you get home. Stay tuned for an update on when this class will be scheduled. Sign up to receive our e-newsletter and you will be first to sign up before it gets filled up!
Deal of the Month!
