Miss Donna Miss Donna

Miss Donna

Owner, Instructor and Custom Sewing Specalist

Miss Donna is passionate about FABRIC! She opened The Fabric Shop in April 2008, and she will tell you experts say that one's second career should always be your passion. With her strong business experience, coupled with her knowledge of the sewing and textile industry she started The Fabric Shop.

Originally from historic Bucks County, PA,  she learned to sew from her mom when she was 5 years old making Barbie clothes from her mother's scraps. She even made a real fur coat for her doll from old pieces of mink her mom got at a thrift shop! She eagerly awaited the mail each day for the packages of leftover trims her mother would send away for from Wrights Trims back in the 1950's. You will find Miss Donna constantly moving on the sales floor helping customers, teaching private sewing lessons, teaching children's and teen's sewing classes, or meeting with fabric & notions sales representatives ordering all the new items the shop gets every week.

She specializes in the Cathedral Windows technique and teaches this class 6 times per year. She also teaches the technique in private lessons on Saturdays or Wednesday mornings. She is our Block of the Month "maven" who studies, cuts, pieces and finishes our blocks and quilts prior to releasing them to our customers. Miss Carrie

Sewing and Quilting Specialist

Ms. Carrie is one of our newest sewing associates and she is passionate about quilting. She enjoys quilting with her friends and designing her own quilt patterns. She is a very clever display artist, with many of the shop displays showing her talents.  She also teaches quilting at the shop, using her newly honed skills that she is learning having gone back to school to become a teacher!  Carrie likes sewing projects that appeal to teens, especially her own daughters Emily (12) and Ashley (10) who attend Coopertown Middle School. In addition to quilts, she enjoys sewing smaller projects like wall hangings, table runners and bags. She celebrates her 25th wedding anniversary this year with her husband Bruce.

Miss Janet Miss Janet

Miss Janet

Miss Janet is also one of our newest associates and loves french heirloom hand sewing. Janet has been sewing since she was 10 and made her first blouse and skirt - just like Scarlett O'Hara - out of her own curtains. She enjoys sewing children's clothing, especially for her grandchildren Noah (4 1/2) and Lydia, who is just 4 weeks old! She is a member of the Springfield Baptist Church and sings in the Gospel choir.  She is a native of Springfield and her ancestors go way back to the first winter at Fort Nashboro. The following year her ancestors moved into what is now known as Robertson County. Janet and her husband J. R. enjoy UT Football and spending time with family.

Miss Judy Miss Judy

Miss Judy

Ms. Judy's talent as a sewist is evident as she sews a custom made prom dress of satin with tulle and organza overlay with several fittings done on a custom made dress form that she also constructed from the gal's own figure. She enjoys making custom made garments for herself and is especially proud of the recent jacket she is "upcycling".  Her work on pillowcases and placemats with metallic threads won her First Prize in her category at last year's Robertson County Fair. She loves all types of sewing and she would love to show you how to make your very own custom dress form during a private lesson. Stop by on Tuesday and Friday mornings and she'll be happy to help you.

Miss Sandy Miss Sandy

Miss Sandy

Sewing Specialist

Miss Sandy (aka Lois Lane since she is in truth married to Clark Kent!) has been sewing for so long that she has forgotten more than we will ever learn! Her attention to detail is a must as she cuts BOM kits and helps our customers picking out just the right fabric for their quilt. She LOVES making home decor projects and she recently completed our beautiful Christmas wall hanging sample that looks like embroidered redwork - just beautiful! Her recent award-winning Noah's Ark wall hanging and Vintage Sewing Quilt is displayed in the shop and we have made up quilt kits if you want to duplicate her designs. Sandy greets our customers with a smile each morning, donned in her retro apron, as she rolls the new fabrics that arrive every wednesday morning. You will often hear her talk about the littlest Kents' her minature schnauzers Gabriel and Luke , and they truly are sooo cute!
